Welcome

The Department of Mathematics, part of the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Delhi, boasts a rich tradition of excellence in education, training, and research across various mathematical disciplines. We offer a Master’s programmme and a Ph.D. in Mathematics. Our distinguished faculty, drawn from top institutions and specializing in diverse areas, has been instrumental in achieving high standings in both national and international rankings. Notably, we rank first among the Mathematics departments of Indian Universities in the QS rankings and have been placed 9th-10th nationally, ranked 68th-80th across Asia and in the bracket 251-300 globally.

The Master’s programmme is designed to establish a solid foundation in core areas of higher mathematics while providing students with exceptional technical expertise. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in both academia and industry. The training emphasizes problem-solving, logical reasoning, and computational skills — essential attributes for doing mathematics. Furthermore, the knowledge of mathematical modelling and computational training that students gain makes them highly sought after by employers. Ultimately, our programmme equips students with the skills and domain knowledge needed to become well-rounded individuals, making them valuable assets to any organization they join.

Our alumni have distinguished themselves in academia, governance, and industry. Many serve as faculty members in educational institutions, while others have secured positions as scientists in research organizations and data analysts in various industries. Over the past few years, numerous graduates have found success in sectors such as IT, insurance, finance, healthcare, and publishing. I am confident that with their commitment and perseverance in the pursuit of knowledge, our department will continue to thrive, and the next generation of alumni will excel in an increasingly competitive and rapidly evolving world.
